How To Avoid A Common Failure In Meditation
One of the common reasons people fail to come to terms with meditation is that they believe it is more complicated than it really is. They are therefore putting up a self built barrier to meditating successfully. A second reason is that they convince themselves they do not have time to practice meditation.
Neither of the above reasons is true. Meditation is actually quite simple in itself, and also relatively easy to fit into your daily routine.
The main aim of meditation is to be able to focus on yourself as a being, allowing everyday problems and thoughts to be set aside. The meditation concept is thus quite easy, but putting it into practice is a different matter to many people. However, there are several ways people can help themselves to become competent at meditating.
Some of the most common ways to achieve the inner balance that meditation offers include:
1. Reciting mantras, or repeating the same word or even phrase;
2. Controlling your breathing pattern, and becoming more focused on your breathing;
3. Through more physical activities such as yoga. In fact, my own first introduction was through a yoga class.
Everybody has different commitments in their daily routine, so it is important to understand that your meditation sessions, long or short, need to fit in with your day, and your personality. Different meditative practices work best for different people, so when starting out with meditation, it is worthwhile experimenting with styles of meditation so that you can decide for yourself which is best for you.
When it comes to the control of your breathing, the only difficulties are posed by your own mind and inhibitions. There is nothing more natural than breathing, so once you become aware of your own breaths, then you will find it relatively easy to control them, and help calm yourself into a good state for meditation.
